Free Movie Day at the Library - August 11, 2010

Laughter filled the Pleasant Grove Branch auditorium
as families took a break from the summer heat
and watched a new movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
The book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, was the prize in a giveaway.
Some of the movie-goers even enjoyed a post-movie photo op.

Mayor's Summer Reading Program Closing Party - August 7, 2010

Magic:  The Mayor's Summer Reading Program Closing Party was magical.
The guest dancer, Debbie Day, presented her spectacular
"Dance, Fly & Slide LocoTrans Xpress,"
reliving moments from musical and literary classics. 
One young lady from the audience took a magic carpet ride,
reminding us of the wonderful adventures of Aladdin.

Mayor's Summer Reading Program Kick-off Success

The Kick-off party for the Mayor's Summer Reading Program was a great success!  Festivities started with the African Drumming of Leo Hassan.  He was joined by youths in the audience who happily played a variety of drums before enjoying refreshments.  A Reading Fest followed. Summer Reading participants chose and read their favorite books from a special display.

Thanks to Jimmy Mullino, Store Manager of Elrod's Cost Plus Supermarkets, a $25 grocery certificate was a Prize Giveaway at the Kick-off party. Elrod's will sponsor FUN DAY AT THE LIBRARY in the back parking lot of the Pleasant Grove Branch on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 11:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Mayor's Summer Reading Program (MSRP)

The Mayor's Summer Reading Program will kick off with a free party
 at Pleasant Grove Branch Library on Saturday, May 29, 2010, 3 pm. 
The guest entertainer will be Daniel de Cordoba,
a popular Hispanic dance artist. 

Youths, ages 0+ to 18, can register or be registered by parents 
for a fun 10-week program to receive prizes for reading. 
Parents can read to children who cannot yet read for themselves,
and bring the children to the library for their prizes. 
Participants can select books or magazines,
or listen to audio books.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration!


The Cinco de Mayo celebration was phenomenal! The Friends of the Pleasant Grove Branch Library and Library staff participated in the Cinco parade and festival.  Pictured above from left to right are R. Moore, L. Craddock, S. Polansky, and G. Moore.  Mr. and Mrs. Moore and Mr. Polansky are members of the Friends group.  Ms. Craddock is the Branch Manager.  The picture was taken during the celebration.
